South African Lockdown

What a Mess

What a Mess

What a mess the world is in with this awful pandemic. Here in South Africa, we are supposedly heading into the peak with infections surging all over the country. Often illogical rules and regulation are put in place, then removed, then reinstated, with very little transparency, leaving people floundering in a vacuum. Rumors are rife and spread like wildfire, causing further unease and uncertainty about the unknown.

100 days and we are still in Level 3. With so little information provided by the government, it’s no wonder people are disregarding any sort of rules. Going out into public spaces, it’s like nothing has changed: no masks, no social distancing, people gathering in groups. It’s pretty scary!

The Weeks Tick By

The Weeks Tick By

We’re on Day 92 I think of the lockdown here in Sunny South Africa. Feels like a lot longer than that!

Has much changed? Not really. No eating out unless you do take-away or to-go. No getting together with friends and family, although there are ways around that! I think a lot of people are “going to church” in various places!

A Conundrum

A Conundrum

It’s not like I have a lot of choices about where to be at the moment, with rumors floating around that international flights from South Africa aren’t going to open up until next year! A repatriation flight is looking better and better - but the last couple of weeks, there have been none to even consider!

Glimmer of Light at the End of the Lockdown

Glimmer of Light at the End of the Lockdown

There’s a glimmer of hope during this horrendous, draconian shutdown in South Africa. Starting June 1, we will be “allowed” to buy liquor, exercise any time and the full-on curfew from 7pm-5am will be lifted. Of course, all the social distancing protocols are supposed to be adhered to, but we’ll have to see how that plays out.
